X-Ray Platoon, SEAL Team One was considered “The Hard Luck Platoon,” because of their unusually heavy personnel losses and wounded during their Vietnam deployment from October 1970 into March 1971. Just weeks prior to what would have been their normal rotation date back to the U.S., they were ordered to stand down and the few remaining ambulatory personnel of the platoon packed up their weapons, equipment, and personal belongings into conex boxes and went home. Then Petty Officer Clinton Majors, a member of X-Ray Platoon from its formation until the end of its deployment, tells the story of the platoon’s action in identifying, finding, and combating their targeted Viet Cong and NVA Infrastructure and Cadre. He goes far beyond the war stories and exposes the camaraderie of the platoon, the humor, sadness, pain, tragedy, and stress of SEAL operations, both during and after their deployment to Vietnam.-Commander Joseph G. DeFloria. USN (Retired)
