The need for accurate prediction of noise has resulted in a growing awareness of the power of computer codes to monitor acoustic problems which are of primary importance in industry, architecture and the environment. It is only now that their effects can accurately be predicted using computers and this provides a unique tool for noise control and reduction. In addition to more classical acoustical problems, there is now a wider recognition in society of the importance of noise in the environment, which is becoming a social and political issue. Planning of airports, motorways, factories and many other developments require a proper study of the resulting noise output. The importance of noise is also reflected in the better design of different components such as mufflers, hearing protection devices, noise barriers and the interior of all types of passenger vehicles. This book contains the edited conference proceedings of the International Conference on Computational Acoustics held in Southampton during April 1995. The Conference brought together researchers in academia and industry concerned with the study of acoustical problems and their accurate modelling.
