The principle difficulty in modeling multiphase flows, according to editors Mammoli (U. of New Mexico, US) and Brebbia (Wessex Institute of Technology, UK), is the problem of differing length scales, with coupling in one or both directions. This problem requires the application of a diversity of numerical approaches and techniques.
