"Freeing the Natural Voice" offers a logical progression of exercises designed for professional and student actors, teachers of acting and voice, and everyone interested in vocal expression. The emphasis is on the removal of the physical and psychological blocks that inhibit the human voice; its objective is that the voice is brought into direct contact with the emotions, shaped by the intellect but not restricted by it. This revised and expanded edition of a book first published in America in 1976 - and now published in Britain for the first time - incorporates further exercises developed over the past three decades. The whole book is dedicated to 'freeing' the voice we were naturally born with.

L'autore
Kristin Linklater was born in 1936 and brought up in the Orkneys. Her father was the novelist Eric Linklater, and her brothers, Magnus and Andro, are both writers. She trained in London at LAMDA before moving to the USA to work with a number of well-known theatres there, returning occasionally to work with the RSC. She has just retired as Professor of Theatre Arts at Columbia University, New York.
