Stephanie Prestage taught mathematics in London comprehensive schools for twelve years before joining the University of Birmingham as a lecturer in mathematics education. During her time at Birmingham she has worked on several research projects in mathematics education as well as in the education of new teachers. She has written extensively in the area of developing tasks for use in the classroom and is keen for all pupils to work and think mathematically. Els De Geest taught mathematics for 7 years in 11-18 schools and has been a Research Officer at the University of Oxford for three projects. She also works as a mathematics consultant at Slough LA, a PGCE tutor for the Open University and an Associate for the Basic Skills Agency. She has worked on curriculum development with groups of teachers, consultants and teacher-educators. Her list of publications includes both research and research-based practical papers. Els' passion is to put research into classroom practice and vice versa, and to value, cherish and build on existing expertise and professionalism of teachers.
