Remington & Sons supplied over 30 global militaries with more than 1.5 million rugged, dependable single-shot breechloaders during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The "Remington System": Originally patented by Joseph Rider, the action relies on a pivoting breechblock locked in place by a separately pivoting hammer that wedges securely behind it. Despite being overlooked by the standard U.S. military at the time, it became the standard service rifle for countries ranging from Spain and France to Egypt and Denmark.
