Primarily written for agricultural professionals, this text reviews the science and methods of developing practical biological control solutions to arthropod pest problem in greenhouses and other protected agricultural production schemes. Presented by Heinz (entomology, Texas A&M University), Van Driesche (entomology, U. of Massachusetts), Parrella (entomology, U. of California at Davis), the 32 chapters address fundamental principles; prerequisites such as greenhouse structure, working with providers of natural enemies, sampling, and insecticide management; biological control of specific pests including whiteflies, spider mites, leafminers, thrips, and aphids; and current biological control-based pest management systems used for chrysanthemum, poinsettia, cut flowers, foliage plants, woody ornamentals, bedding plants, cucumber, sweet pepper, tomato, and mushroom. The final chapters discuss the extension/advisory role in developing and delivering biological control strategies to growers, quality control of mass-produced beneficial insects, and the future of biological control in greenhouse crops.
