This classic book on the Japanese art of fish printing known as Gyotaku gives information on 32 of the most commercially important fish and shellfish families. There is at least one full-page Gyotaku fish print for each family. It also includes background on fish structure, biology, ecology, and commercial fishing for each family. This is a jointly produced reprint by Sea Challengers, Inc. and North Atlantic Books.

A native of San Francisco, Christopher Dewees received his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis. He taught fisheries as a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile in 1970-72. Since 1972 he has been a marine fisheries specialist between the University of California, Davis, and the State's commercial and recreational fishing industries. His prints have been exhibited with Gyotaku-no-kai in Tokyo, as well as at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the California Academy of Sciences, the Oakland Museum, and numerous other galleries and natural history museums. He lives in Davis with his wife Christine. Of their two grown sons, one is an avid angler, the other a marine biologist.
