Riassunto

The editor of 72 Transformations: Concept Designs for the Monkey King will commission 72 artists worldwide to draw the mythical Chinese hero, Monkey King, each in his or her own unique way. They are then free to employ diferent interpretations, styles and media to create images rich in symbolic meaning the highlight of the book! The 72 images may include personalised "re-creations" of the Monkey King image, a fresh version of an image of the Monkey King taken from a scene in Journey to the West, or a model based on the Monkey King together with other actual objects and characters. In addition to displaying the 72 works, the artists will also use step-by-step drawings and text to explain their creative process and what they gained from it, as well as their perceptions of the Chinese folk hero, the Monkey King. This section will offer readers a more profound experience and deeper insight into how to undertake conceptual design and artistic creation. Commissioning a single-theme creative project on such a large scale is a very meaningful affair, and designers and readers will get a chance to see all sorts of fascinating creative acts that occur when an artist undertakes a conceptual design. But equally, this is an excellent opportunity for Monkey King aficionados to acquire a world-class collector's item.
