Born in 1749 in the mountains of Gevaudan, the last of a long lineage of witches, Eve is an almost ordinary peasant girl, except for the fact her birth name was Paul. Growing up in a land of magic and mystery with the love of her mother, she must then as an adult face the scorn of a society that does not accept her, nor any woman seeking independence. Accused of witchcraft, she finds refuge with the mysterious count Nicolas who has been terrorizing the villagers as the ‘Beast of Gevaudan’ for years, and whose love for her is laced with cruelty. But that is only the beginning for Eve, who soon finds herself propelled into eternity as she awakens as a vampire with unique abilities.
Courtesan, herbalist, feminist, author and public speaker, over a hundred years later Eve is an accomplished, independent, but lonely woman, who struggles to find her place even among others like herself, and has long given up her naïve romantic dreams. And when her friend Emily invites a handsome stranger named Stanley to join her transgender circle, little does she know that he was the Englishman who broke Eve’s heart and came to France to make things right.
