Priscilla Rodd was born outside Paw Paw, West Virginia, in an old farmhouse with no running water or electricity. Her birth was overseen by a midwife who was paid $50 and three old chickens for her services. Her parents, Quaker activists, home schooled Priscilla until she was eleven years old. The year she began public school was the same year her family acquired indoor plumbing and a black-and-white television. After graduating high school, Priscilla moved to New Orleans. She studied theater at Point Park College and Sarah Lawrence College, living for periods of time in Pittsburgh, Boston, and New York City. She eventually discovered creative writing and earned a Regent s Degree from West Virginia University. In 2002, her studies were completed with an MFA in fiction from the University of Pittsburgh. Priscilla s fiction has been published in Calliope. She wrote advocacy journalism for the Friends of Blackwater Canyon. She also worked as a reporter for The Journal newspaper, based out of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Her work is forthcoming in the anthology Becoming Fire. Priscilla currently teaches creative writing classes and lives in Charles Town, West Virginia, with her husband and fellow writer, Deane Kern, and their two young sons.
