He also plays a role in the story of India, which also starts as an impoverished nation, but despite many divisive forces and four wars in a short period, progresses by achieving a white revolution, a green revolution, nuclear capability, telecom advancement, a space programme, an IT revolution, nuclear power status, and finally gets on the fast track of growth to be the second fastest growing economy in the world. Today it is knocking at the doors of the UN Security Council to claim its rightful place in the comity of nations. The novel has a few fascinating love stories intertwined, and also shows the growth and empowerment of women after Independence. The author, who lived through the period, narrates both the stories with a rare passion to make the novel a compelling read.
