Patsy Milner began her professional career as a first grade teacher and reading specialist. In 1979, she enrolled in the School of Social Work and Community Planning at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She graduated in 1981 and worked for 4 years at a clinic for sexually abused children. She joined various groups that specialize in private practices until she decided to go solo in 2005. Her favorite modality is cognitive behavioral therapy, although in her practice she uses a variety of techniques. Her combined love for therapy and teaching was the inspiration for this book. Dionne Brown-Bushrod After discovering intrigue in mental health and social conflict, Dionne obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work. Her curiosity built a varied career. She has worked with the homeless, chronically mentally ill in psychiatric mobile treatment, adults and children in outpatient mental health centers, elementary and middle-school students in public schools, youth in public and private child welfare, and juvenile justice. She’s had multiple roles as a clinician, clinical consultant, clinical director, presenter/trainer, field instructor, and clinical social work supervisor. Dionne feels that her paths have helped to shape a down-to-Earth, perspective in treating the person in their environment while using empowerment, humor, and cognitive methods in her clinical social work private practice. Patsy and Dionne practice in Baltimore, Maryland where they share office space, clinical ideas, laughter, and fashion compliments. In fact, during one of their quick meetings in between patients, they conceived the idea of this book.
