Sinossi

The concept of organic chemistry has undergone tremendous change. Organic reaction mechanism is an essential part of organic chemistry courses in all universities. The student of organic chemistry has become more inquisitive and desires to know more about the mechanism of a reaction. In spite of this growing interest in the subject there has been no comprehensive text book at an advanced level incorporating mechanism of all reactions especially rearrangement reactions. This book is an attempt to fulfill this need. This book is intended for students at graduate and post graduate level. It is expected that such students already possess an adequate background in chemistry. Rearrangement reactions are wonder reactions. Which constitute one of the most fascinating branch of organic reactions. There has been predictable products & mechanism in organic reactions like addition reaction, elimination reactions, substitution reaction etc. but in rearrangement reactions surprise product is formed by unthinkable mechanism. A rearrangement reaction is a broad class of organic reactions where the carbon skeleton of a molecule is rearranged to give a structural isomer of the original molecule. Often a substituent moves from one atom to another atom in the same molecule. A reaction in which an atom or bond moves or migrates, having been initially located at one site in a reactant molecule and ultimately located at a different site in a product molecule. A rearrangement reaction may involve several steps, but the key feature defining in rearrangement is that a bond shifts from one site of attachment to another. A large number of structural rearrangements are triggered by intermediates incorporating positively charged or electron deficient atoms. Several books are available on rearrangement which provide guidance to students at theoretical level but there was a dearth of books which provide mechanistic approach to the students by incorporating numerous examples. This book aims at providing exhaustive practice for different rearrangement. The author feel privileged in presenting this book which has variation in rearrangements & examples so as to encourage maximum learning. The main attraction of this book is that each step involved in rearrangement is shown by mechanistic way by showing arrows, showing attack from nucleophile center to electrophilic center, rearrangement of groups etc. so that students can understand at each step how change is happen in rearrangement. The present book has been written as per the expectations of students. Efforts have been made to present the mechanism at each step so that students can understand formation of product in rearrangement reaction through number of solved examples. Much care has been taken to minimize the typographical mistakes in the book. Despite of this there may be some mistakes. Valuable suggestions are invited from the curious students and learned teachers for the improvement of the book.
