Sinossi
Au printemps 2002, le gouvernement israélien a ouvert, en Cisjordanie occupée, le chantier d'une barrière et d'un mur longs de plus de 650 kilomètres. Cet ouvrage gigantesque devrait être achevé en 2007. Pour l'Etat d'Israël, cette " barrière de sécurité " est destinée à empêcher l'entrée sur son territoire de terroristes palestiniens. Pour les Palestiniens, ce " mur de séparation ", qui annexe de fait à Israël une partie substantielle de leur futur Etat, est une .nouvelle frontière imposée par la force. Le mur de Palestine est-il un moyen de lutte contre le terrorisme ou un barrage contre la paix ? René Backmann, rédacteur en chef au Nouvel Observateur où il dirige le service étranger, couvre depuis vingt-cinq ans l'actualité politique au Proche-Orient.

René Backmann, rédacteur en chef au Nouvel Observateur, est spécialiste du Proche-Orient. Il a obtenu, en 1991, le prix Mumm pour son enquête sur les financiers de l'islam intégriste. Il a coécrit, avec Rony Brauman, Les Médias et l'Humanitaire : Éthique de l'information ou charité spectacle (CFPJ, 1996).
