Les cycles Fondation et Les robots ont imposé Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) comme l'un des piliers de l'Age d'or de la SF, dès les années 1940. Il est l'instigateur des fameuses et révolutionnaires trois Lois de la robotique, qui brisent le mythe du robot envahisseur ou aliéné, pour en faire un être enclin au doute et à la contradiction.
