This book provides valuable insights for researchers, clinicians, and developers working at the intersection of medical imaging and real-time signal processing. It delivers a clear and in-depth exploration of advanced techniques for real-time ultrasound (US) image processing, with a particular emphasis on state-of-the-art denoising and super-resolution methods. Ultrasound is one of the most widely used imaging modalities in medicine - valued for its affordability, portability, and safety. However, challenges such as speckle noise and limited resolution can hinder its diagnostic potential. This book addresses these issues head-on, presenting real-time techniques that significantly enhance image quality and support more accurate clinical interpretation. From static US images to dynamic 2D videos and 3D volumes, the book discusses how real-time processing can improve US images for disease diagnosis and tracking. Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of current solutions, including comparative reviews of existing methods, practical insights into implementation, and analysis of both computational demands and hardware requirements. Whether the reader is designing medical imaging software, conducting research, or seeking to optimise clinical workflows, this book offers both the technical depth and real-world perspective needed to advance your work in ultrasound imaging.

Simone Cammarasana is a researcher at CNR-IMATI, Italy. His research has focused on signal analysis, processing, and visualisation. In particular, he has designed novel methods for the real-time processing of ultrasound images and videos. He has been the scientific responsible for five ISCRA-C with CINECA on HPC and AI. He has collaborated with international research institutes, companies, and healthcare institutions.
Giuseppe Patanè is a senior researcher at CNR-IMATI, Italy. Since 2001, his research and teaching activities have been focused mainly on Computer Graphics, Information Visualisation, Geometric Modelling, and Shape Analysis. He is the author of scientific publications in Computer Science and a tutor of Marie Curie researchers, Ph.D., and Post.Doc students. He is also responsible for research and development activities in national and European projects.
