As the focus and methods of health education shift, our definition of health literacy changes; however it remains an important aspect of health education overall. On the one hand a minimum level of health literacy is required in order for education aspects of health promotion to succeed. On the other hand it can also be seen as a positive outcome of health promotion activities.
