Part I investigates the subtle interplay of adverbial modification and event individuation, paying special attention to complex events. Part II treats the semantic effects of varying the syntactic position of adverbs in the sentence. A general theory of predication, word order, and intonation in German is presented, which gives semantic evidence in favour of the claim that adverbs in German have a base position.
