Sinossi
1969 unternimmt der amerikanische Geschichtslehrer Ben Ross mit seiner Klasse ein Experiment um eine Frage zu klären: wie konnte es passieren, dass fast das gesamte deutsche Volk in den Bann des Nationalsozialismus geriet? Zu diesem Zweck erschaffen Lehrer und Schüler eine Bewegung, genannt "Die Welle". Doch schon am Ende der ersten Woche droht die Welle überzuschwappen und das Experiment außer Kontrolle zu geraten.

L'autore
Morton Rhue wurde als Todd Strasser am 5. Mai 1950 in New York City geboren und ist ein US-amerikanischer Schriftsteller. Rhue verbrachte seine Kindheit auf Long Island. Nach seiner Schulzeit begann er ein Studium an einem College in New York, das er jedoch bald abbrach. Er reiste zunächst einige Jahre durch Europa und verdiente seinen Lebensunterhalt als Straßenmusiker. Erst dann kehrte er in die Vereinigten Staaten zurück und schloss 1974 ein Literaturstudium am Benoit College in Wisconsin ab. Danach arbeitete Rhue sowohl als Journalist als auch als Werbetexter. Parallel schrieb er Kurzgeschichten, die in bekannten Zeitschriften veröffentlicht wurden. 1978 gelang ihm mit seinem Debutroman „Angel Dust Blues“ der Durchbruch. Von seinem Gewinn kaufte Rhue sich eine Glückskeksfabrik, die ihm zwölf Jahre lang den Lebensunterhalt sicherte. Rhue machte sich durch zahlreiche Publikationen und mehrere Romane für Jugendliche einen Namen. Seine Themen sind kontrovers: Nationalsozialismus, Gewalt an Schulen oder Obdachlosigkeit. Im deutschen Sprachraum wurde er vor allem durch das Buch „The Wave“ bekannt, das bis heute in vielen Schulen gelesen wird, Auszeichnungen erhielt und verfilmt wurde . Sein letzter Roman „Dschihad online“ befasst sich mit der Radikalisierung islamistischer Jugendlicher. Morton Rhue ist verheiratet, hat zwei Kinder und lebt seit 25 Jahren in Larchmont in New York.
