Classification being an intellectual activity it is both time consuming and demanding. Libraries are using information technology extensively in all library housekeeping operations except classification. On the backdrop of this automation of classification is very important. Efforts for developing automatic classification scheme are going on for quite some time. With computer’s limitations in understanding the natural language, there are some challenges in developing automatic classification scheme. Present book elaborates the challenges in automatic classification and suggests the methodology to develop such scheme for Physics. Book contains depth classification schedule for Physics, examples of classified documents, tables, diagrams, images and exhaustive references to substantiate the theoretical construct".
