The precise knowledge of production cross sections forspecific radionuclides for medium energies (10 MeV to 100GeV) of the incident particle gains ever more importance,not only for nuclear physics but also for many applications,e.g. astrophysics, radiation protection at accelerators butalso on space flights, radioisotope techniques in medicineand for industrial applications and perhaps even for theremoval of nuclear waste by accelerators.Since the last systematic review of these production crosssections in 1973 (LB I/5a, b, c) an impressive amount of newexperimental data has been accumulated. In the first threeparts of this volume already a huge amount of data has beencompiled for the production of radioisotopes by mediumenergetic protons on targets from He to Am. The precisevalues of the cross sections can be taken from the tables,whereas the figures show the general trend of the crosssections and can be more readily used for interpolations. Inthe fourth part of this volume supplement data forsubvolumes I/13a, b and c will be compiled. The origin ofthe authors made it possible to include also data from theUSSR and other East European states which sometimes are noteasy to access. The tables and figures have been compiledwith extraordinary care and should present the most completecompilation for this type of nuclear reactions.
