Nach wie vor ist kaum verständlich, warum die Deutschen eine so starke Loyalität zu Adolf Hitler bewiesen. In seiner brillant geschriebenen Biographie kommt Rafael Seligmann zu dem Schluß: Hitler und die Deutschen wurden von den gleichen Ängsten vor der Moderne geplagt. Daher gelang es Hitler, sich als einzig glaubwürdiger Vertreter des deutschen Volkes zu präsentieren. Nur so konnte er zum Führer der Deutschen in einem Kreuzzug gegen Vernunft und Menschlichkeit werden und den traditionellen Antisemitismus radikalisieren.

Rafael Seligmann, Jahrgang 1947, ist Politologe, Schriftsteller und Historiker. Er arbeitete als Redakteur der Welt und als Dozent für Internationale Beziehungen an der Universität München. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Romane und von Sachbüchern. Er lehrte Literatur an Universitäten in den USA, Großbritannien und Deutschland und hat aufsehenerregende Essays verfasst, unter anderem für Stern und Spiegel. Rafel Seligmann lebt in Berlin.
