This volume aims to stimulate discussions on research involving the use of data and digital images as an understanding approach for analysis and visualization of phenomena and experiments. The examples were particularly chosen from materials research, medical applications, general concepts applied in simulations and image analysis and other interesting related problems.

Fabiana Rodrigues Leta received BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Federal Fluminense University in 1989, MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Catholic Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and 1998, respectively. She is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Federal Fluminense University, in Brazil. She is also the Director of the Innovation Agency of this University. She is the editor of the scientific journal of the Engineering School of Federal Fluminense University. She is a member of the Brazilian Association of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, member of the Brazilian Society of Metrology and coordinator of the Committee of Dimensional Metrology Network of Rio de Janeiro. She had coordinated several scientific projects and nowadays she is in charge of five projects financed by public funds and industry. She had published almost 150 papers in conference proceedings and journals. Her research interests include Computer Vision, Metrology and Technological Innovation.
