Research into new methods to identify genes in genomic sequences has been going on for more than 20 years. Computational methods are indeed very useful in gene identification within the area of Bioinformatics. Here a new method has been developed to predict whether the sequence given is exon or intron. The chaos game representation (CGR) is a novel way of revealing patterns within nucleotide sequences . The CGR representation is done using a square scatter plot with one of the bases A, G, C and T at different corners of the square. Here scatter plots, Quadrilateral pattern (measuring area and angle at right bottom), sixteen quadrant (mesh) plot, sixty four quadrant plots and patterns using sliding window method are generated to identify whether a given sequence represents Exon or Intron. The quadrilateral pattern shows significant variation between Exon and Intron sequences based on which an algorithm has been developed for testing the sequence. The algorithm developed performs with a percentage of 72.09 accuracy while testing different sequences.
