Joseph Roths Novelle Die Legende vom heiligen Trinker erschien 1939 nach seinem Tode im Amsterdamer Verlag Allert de Lange. Andreas ist eigentlich ein Mann von Ehre, der nicht geschenkt haben will. Während der ganzen Legende will er geliehenes Geld zurückbringen. Er kommt aber nicht dazu. Weil er trink, muss das Geld, müssen seine Gläubiger immer wieder warten

Moses Joseph Roth war ein österreichischer Schriftsteller und Journalist. Er wurde am 2. September 1894 in Brody in Ostgalizien in Österreich-Ungarn geboren und verstarb am 27. Mai 1939 in Paris.
