The present volume contains the contributions presented at the sixth LSS-conference, held in April 2025 in France, and Attests to the diversity of graphematical approaches, encompassing both theoretical perspectives and detailed empirical case studies. The thematic focus of this issue of the Graphematics Network was to demonstrate how writing emerges from the interaction between strictly linguistic aspects and extralinguistic factors, giving rise to adaptations and further developments within particular writing systems. Aiming to broaden our understanding of writing, and in continuity with the preceding conferences, the volume includes contributions addressing both well-studied alphabetic traditions and non-alphabetic writing systems, such as the Maya script.
