Jahrhunderts bezeichnet werden. Zeit seines Lebens stand er im Dienst der Schrift, sowohl als junger talentierter Kalligraph und Gestalter von rund 70 Plakaten, als auch später als selbstkritischer Typograf und Entwerfer von Druckschriften. In seinen Plakaten setzte er die stark durch das Bauhaus geprägten avantgardistischen Ideen der Neuen Typografie um. Tschichold erhielt für sein Wirken zahlreiche Preise, so ernannte ihn die Société Typographique de France 1960 zum Ehrenmitglied und die Royal Society of Arts 1965 ehrenhalber zum Royal Designer of Industry. Das vorliegende Buch setzt sich analytisch mit dem Plakat-Werk Tschicholds auseinander. Dabei werden sowohl seine eigene Plakat-Sammlung, die u.a. Werke von Hans Arp, El Lissitzky, László Moholy-Nagy und Oskar Schlemmer beinhaltet, als auch die ca. 70 von ihm gestalteten Plakate in Farbe gezeigt.
