Sinossi

American artist James Turrell has been working with phenomena related to light and perception since the mid-1960s. His most spectacular project is Roden Crater in the Painted Desert of Arizona, a network of chambers and passages that creates the feeling of a sky devoid of limit, a dome arching over the earth, a phenomenon which Turrell calls "the other horizon". For the eclipse of the sun on August 11th, 1999, Turrell conceived two perceptual spaces: The Elliptic Ecliptic, a Sky Space built on a hillside facing St. Michael's Mount, and Arcus, a Shallow Space construction in the Newlyn Art Gallery. At the end of the eclipse, both structures were taken down, and thus this book is a vital and unique document of the last total eclipse of this century and the last one for eighty-five years. Included are photos by Turrell and Thomas Joshua Cooper documenting these works, as well as an audio CD specially recorded for this project with compositions by Paul Schutze.
