Die Revolution der Romantiker Fluxus made in USA In den sechziger Jahren kehrten amerikanische Fluxus-Künstler wie George Maciunas, Geoffrey Hendricks, Al Hansen und Ben Patterson dem Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten den Rücken und fanden in Europa, besonders in Deutschland, einen Ort, an dem sie ihre avantgardistischen Vorstellungen von Kunst und Leben verwirklichen konnten. Ihre Performances, Musik und Objekte waren wild und provokativ. Gleichzeitig zeugen sie von dem Bedürfnis nach einer Wiederverzauberung der Welt. Arbeiten wie Geoffrey Hendricks Wolkenbilder, Al Hansons Venus-Bilder und Ben Pattersons Reise-Arbeiten erinnern in ihrer Sehnsucht nach Mythos, Transzendenz und Freiheit an die Werke von Romantikern wie Johan Christian Clausen Dahl, Philipp Otto Runge, Caspar David Friedrich und Ludwig Tieck. Ebenso wie den Romantikern ging es den Künstlern der Fluxus-Bewegung darum, mit Ironie, Phantasie und den Glauben an eine humane Utopie die Gesellschaft zu verändern: »Oh ihr ledernen Alltagsmenschen ersinnt immerhin Regeln! Die Menge wird euch loben für die dargebotenen Krücken, wer aber eigene Kraft fühlt, verlacht euch!«. (Caspar David Friedrich)
