An eye-opening compendium of new architecture, this volume presents projects from 34 firms, one to six projects for each, depicted in both full-page and smaller photos and described in brief text. Editor Rihan explains in the preface that a revolution is in process. New architecture incorporates innovations allowed by computer-aided parametric design, new materials, an emphasis on arcology (which is explained as "a portmanteau of the words 'architecture' and 'ecology"), and a drive toward "enormous habitats (hyper-structures) with high population densities," including the HOPSCA building type--combining "hotel, office, parking, shopping mall, convention center, and apartments." Projects are located world wide. A sampling: blue residential tower, New York (Bernard Tschumi Architects); Leonardo Glass Cube Bad Driburg, Germany (3deluxe); Marina Bay Sands, Singapore (Moshe Safdie and Associates); and National Palace Museum, Taiwan (Antoine Predock).
