Nella comprensione della lingua parlata, l'ascoltatore si trova di fronte a un flusso più o meno continuo di informazioni uditive. I segnali prosodici, come il movimento dell'intonazione, l'allungamento pre-limite e le pause, aiutano in modo incrementale a organizzare il flusso di informazioni in entrata in frasi prosodiche, che spesso coincidono con unità sintattiche. La prosodia è quindi centrale nella comprensione del linguaggio parlato e alcuni modelli presumono che l'oratore produca prosodia in modo coerente e gerarchico. Sebbene ci siano molteplici prove empiriche che i segnali di confine prosodico sono prodotti in modo affidabile e robusto e guidano efficacemente la comprensione delle frasi parlate attraverso diverse popolazioni e lingue, i meccanismi sottostanti e la natura dell'interfaccia prosodia-sintassi non sono ancora stati identificati sufficientemente. Ciò si riflette anche nel fatto che la maggior parte dei modelli sull'elaborazione delle frasi manca completamente di informazioni prosodiche. Questo volume di libri modificato è basato su un workshop che si è tenuto nel 2021 alla conferenza annuale della Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft (DGfS). I cinque capitoli trattano argomenti selezionati sulla produzione e la comprensione di segnali prosodico in varie popolazioni e lingue, tutti incentrati in particolare sull"elaborazione della prosodia ai confini prosodici strutturalmente rilevanti. The five chapters cover selected topics on the production and comprehension of prosodic cues in various populations and languages, all focusing in particular on processing of prosody at structurally relevant prosodic boundaries.
