Neuware -Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articlesavailable from Wikipedia or other free sources online. cls (for clearscreen) is a command used by the command line interpreters COMMAND.COMand cmd.exe on DOS, OS/2 and Microsoft Windows operating systems toclear the screen or console window of commands and any output generatedby them. It does not clear the user's history of commands, however. Inother environments, like for instance Linux and Unix the samefunctionality is provided by the clear command. While the ultimateorigins of using the three-character string cls as the command to clearthe screen likely predate Microsoft's use, this command was presentbefore its MS-DOS usage, in the embedded ROM BASIC dialects Microsoftwrote for early 8-bit microcomputers (such as TRS-80 Color BASIC), whereit served the same purpose. The MS-DOS dialects of BASIC written byMicrosoft, BASICA and GW-BASIC, also have the cls command as a BASICkeyword.
