Riassunto

The present study area had moderate species richness (55 species of trees in the 10-hectare area). The mean stand basal area (18.99 square meter/ha) and tree density (760 trees/ha) of the study area are high compared to some coastal and inland tropical dry evergreen forests in southern Coromandel Coast. People’s belief on God conserved a considerable number of tropical dry evergreen forest (TDEF) patches in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts. Conservation of these tropical dry evergreen forest sites is essential to preserve its native species richness and diversity. This study contributes a considerable amount of quantitative information to tree diversity database of TDEFs in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts, Tamil Nadu.
