Lean, also denoted to as Lean Management, Lean Manufacturing (LM), Lean Enterprise, or Lean Production, is a set of principles, tools and techniques that many industrial organizations or companies opt to implement, in order to enhance the efficiency of production and overall customer value while at the same time eliminating waste. Lean manufacturing is the systematic elimination of waste. As the name implies, lean is focused at cutting “fat” from production activities. It has also been successfully applied to administrative and engineering activities as well. Although lean manufacturing is a relatively new term, many of the tools used in lean can be traced back to Fredrick Taylor and the Gilbreaths at the turn of the 20th century.“Becoming lean is a process of eliminating waste with the goal of creating value”. A business methodology which aims to provide a new way to think about how to organize human activities to deliver more benefits to society and value to individuals while eliminating waste. It is a comprehensive set of techniques that, when combined and matured, will allow you to reduce and then eliminate the seven wastes.
