Sinossi

This book examines the role of SHGs in improving the socio-economic conditions of rural women in Tripura. Primary data were collected from 120 SHG members through a structured questionnaire and personal interviews. Descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, Chi-square tests and SWOT analysis were used. The findings show that SHGs support income generation, savings, employment, social participation, confidence and household decision-making. Overall, 42% of respondents were satisfied, 37% moderately satisfied and 21% not satisfied with SHG activities. However, satisfaction was not significantly associated with age, employment, income or educational qualification. The SWOT analysis identifies regular meetings, member participation, record keeping, decision-making and savings as major strengths, while inadequate capital, marketing difficulties, lack of training and limited leadership rotation remain key challenges. The study highlights the need for timely credit, improved market access, training, leadership development and institutional financial support to strengthen the sustainability and effectiveness of SHGs and promote the socio-economic empowerment of rural women in Tripura.
