This book tells the story of two naughty mice who sneak into a doll's house and steal some things back into their home. This story was created by Miss Potter during a particularly happy time. At that time, Miss Potter and her editor, Norman, became very close friends. In order to facilitate Miss Potter's painting, Norman made a new cage for her two pet mice, which were the prototypes of the main characters; and the dollhouse in the story was made by Norman for his favorite little niece, Winifred.In 1904, The Tale of Two Bad Mice was officially published. The year after this little book was published, Miss Potter and Norman became officially engaged.
