《工程材料实验指导书》共分三个实验项目：实验一为金属材料的硬度，主要涉及材料硬度测量的基本分类，测量设备原理及应用范围，布氏硬度、洛氏硬度试验机的主要结构和工作原理，布氏硬度、洛氏硬度试验机的测量方法和操作使用。实验二为金相显微镜的使用和金相组织的观察，主要涉及金相显微镜的基本原理及使用方法，铁碳合金（碳钢及白口铸铁）在平衡状态下的显微组织，淬火组织特征、性能特点，平衡组织和非平衡组织的形成条件和组织性能特点，成分（含碳量）对铁碳合金显微组织的影响。实验三为碳钢的热处理，主要介绍碳钢热处理的基本工艺方法，不同热处理方法对碳钢组织与性能的影响等。《工程材料实验指导书》注重实践，但也不偏废理论基础，方便实用第一部分实验指导实验一金属材料的硬度（1）实验二金相显微镜的使用和金相组织的观察（9）实验三碳钢的热处理（17）第二部分实验报告金属材料的硬度实验报告（21）金相显微镜的使用和金相组织的观察实验报告（23）碳钢的热处理实验报告（25）
