Dr. (Mrs.) Chelin Rani Gnanam was a graduate in Botany from Sarah Tucker College, Palayamkottai. She earned her master Degree in Botany with a gold medal. After completing her M.Phil with Distinction in Madras University, she joined Bharathidasan University for her Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. K. V. Krishnamurthy, Professor of Plant Biotechnology (Rtd.). She had published several research papers in reputed journals. She was a member of academic staff of Botany, Holy Cross College for a period of 36 Years teaching fungi for undergraduate and Post graduate students. She retired as a Reader and Head of Department of Botany from Holy Cross College. The vast experience of teaching the subject Fungi and research in this field inspired her to write a book on “The Fungi” for the students at the Undergraduate level. This book gives a clear picture of Fungi which can be used as a text in courses on Botany, Plant Sciences, Plant Biotechnology and Microbiology at college and University levels in India.
