According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a child is any person below the age of 18. As such, just like any other person, s/he has rights. Governments should ensure that children are properly cared for and protect them from violence, abuse and neglect by their parents, or anyone else who looks after them. According to a factsheet published by the World Health Organization (WHO), abuse has many consequences. Aside from bruises and physical injuries, it can lead to development delays, drug abuse, depression, stress disorders, self-harm and many more. The fact sheet also states that parent training and home visiting programs can be implemented in order to prevent child abuse or at least help reduce child maltreatment rates. Since child abuse has become a global problem, many countries took the initiatives to deal with and solve this issue.
