Il graffiti-writing, o graffitismo, nasce sul finire degli anni '60 nelle strade di Filadelfia. Ma è nella New York dei primi '70 che assurge a vera e propria arte urbana, appropriandosi gradualmente del panorama cittadino, dai muri ai cunicoli della metropolitana. Negli anni in cui questa forma d'arte emerge, i suoi pionieri ne stendono le fondamenta giocando con le ventisei lettere dell'alfabeto senza soluzione di continuità. Esse vengono distorte ed evidenziate nelle diverse tag graffitate sui muri. Nella prima parte di questo libro, Woshe racconta l'incredibile storia della nascita di questa cultura. Passa poi a offrirci un'analisi dettagliata delle ventisei lettere dell'alfabeto, della loro struttura e dei modi in cui i graffitari ne hanno determinato l'evoluzione. Tale studio è corredato da una grande quantità di illustrazioni ed esempi delle personalizzazioni applicate dagli artisti alle loro lettere. Born in 1972 in Val-de-Marne (France), Woshe discovered his first graffiti at the age of 14 by taking the train. Fascinated by these clandestine paintings that appropriate urban greyness, using the letter as a subject for experimentation, he begins to sketch his first drawings. Over time and encounters, he discovers a true culture, initiated by pioneers, full of codes and positive values in which he recognizes himself. For 30 years now, he has relentlessly traced the alphabetical material, juggling with styles and answering the most diverse orders. Considered a letter specialist, Woshe is also the author of two best-selling books on the subject.
