Hardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. 2nd Edition. The definitive study of one of the most beautiful and significant alchemical treatises ever created is now at your fingertips. Splendor Solis (1582, Harley MS 3469) a jewel of the British Library, bound in sumptuous red fabric with a French-style jacket is presented here in an exceptionally thorough edition. It includes all of its miniatures: twenty-two full-page illuminations reproduced with remarkable fidelity to their many nuances, accompanied by detailed commentary that reveals the work s every subtle feature. Its authors Jörg Völlnagel, Thomas Hofmeier, Peter Kidd, and Joscelyn Godwin guide the reader through the manuscript s iconographic secrets, historical context, and complete codicological story. They unpack the meaning of each image and illuminate the broader mysteries embedded in the codex. As Berlin Staatliche Museen art historian and researcher Jörg Völlnagel notes, The Splendor Solis is not at all a laboratory book. It instead conveys the philosophy of alchemy, according to which the alchemist lives and acts in harmony with natural laws. Thus he respects divine creation while contributing to its development and growth by following alchemical principles. This volume is likely the most up-to-date and comprehensive study of Splendor Solis to date, offering new perspectives among them the provocative suggestion that Salomon (or Solomon) Trismosin, reputed possessor of the philosopher s stone and teacher of Paracelsus, was not in fact the work s author. Alongside the Voynich Manuscript, Splendor Solis remains one of the most enigmatic manuscripts ever produced. Codice articolo ABE-1760307228651
