Da Eduardo Paolozzi e Richard Hamilton, a David Hockney, Derek Boshier, Allen Jones, Peter Philips, Patrick Caulfield, in quegli anni emerge una nuova generazione di artisti, soprattutto nella pop art, un movimento transculturale, informale e popolare, che insieme all'innovazione dell'espressione artistica propone stili di vita radicalmente diversi, soprattutto sul piano dei costumi sessuali e della morale, occupando una posizione dominante tra le nuove tendenze. La mostra è allestita in collaborazione con il British Council di Londra e la Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation di Lisbona, che hanno messo a disposizione molti dei capolavori esposti.
