Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. In recent decades, the rise of globalisation has increased the prospects of sustaining development through the use of modern information and communication technology (ICT). Most developing countries are still lacking to knowledge and information for increasing productivity and alleviating poverty. The ICT could be used a powerful tool to sustain development by enhancing allocation of resources and management of the environment. To this end, building ICT capacity allows developing countries to absorb, apply and create knowledge and disseminate information. Sustainable development is about learning how to bridge the gap between present and future generations. During the last decades, energy and energy prices have occupied a substantial space in the literature on development studies and international relations. In modern time, no society can survive without energy use. Currently, conventional energy sources, mainly oil and gas, account for almost 85% of total energy consumption worldwide. These resources are non-renewable and unevenly distributed across regions. Recent increase in oil prices, driven by rapid economic growth, has impacted economic growth in many nations causing unemployment, inflation and global recession. In particular, higher petroleum prices could have negative consequences to development programmes in many developing countries. Sustainable development is continues process of productivity growth driven by energy production and consumption. The aim of this study is to highlight the importance of indigenous knowledge for fostering economic growth and sustainable development. Recent literature on development studies considers knowledge as a key resource that can alleviate poverty, promote innovations, enhance competitiveness and create wealth. Development is a complex process of multidimensional factors involving both local and external forces. Knowledge for development must be appropriate in relation to a country's environmental, social, cultural, spiritual and economic landscape. Codice articolo 125118
