Sinossi

Migrating to Australia, Good Meh? by Michael and Ken Soong, two brothers that have been living in Australia for quite some time. This book presents the bitter sweet (and sour) truth based on the authors’ experiences as Malaysian migrants living in Australia - from the perspectives of not only Malaysians but also South East Asians; about the so called more ‘equal’ opportunities, advanced, liberal, democratic, laissez-faire ways of life in the land of Australia which supposed to be better than Malaysia in any way and every respect! Is Australia all rosy, nice, and dandy? The short answer is ‘yes’ and ‘no’. The long answer is not too long either as you can see the book is not a thick one at all. While this book is not some sort of a ‘one size fits all’ instruction manual of migrating and living in Australia, the authors do believe it contains some noteworthy discussions and anecdotal accounts that can shed light on the dilemmas, ironies, opportunities, challenges, hopes, despair, frustration, excitements, and emotions.

Informazioni sull?autore

Ken and Michael first came to Australia for their studies in the early 1990s. Upon graduation, they went back to work in Malaysia in the areas of marketing, export, human resource development, and management consulting. In 1997 during the midst of the East Asian financial crisis, Michael started a business importing health care products from Taiwan and Japan. His products were initially marketed to Popular Bookstore and Guardian Pharmacy. Two years later, the network was expanded to Apex Pharmacy, Watson’s (Malaysia and Singapore), Jusco’s Aqua Pharmacy, and TESCO. Although he sold his company before migrating to Australia, the products are still available at these retail chains. One of the more notable product lines among the Malaysian public is the Shimizu Slimming Series. Like many Malaysians who were swept by the wave of migration fever, Ken and Michael too decided to migrate. Expectedly they chose Australia. Ken holds a bachelor and a master’s degree in business from Charles Sturt University as well as a Master of Education from Deakin University. Currently he teaches in RMIT Business TAFE School, Monash College as a sessional teacher and also tutors in Monash University at the post-graduate level for the Master of International Trade (Caulfield Campus). Michael holds a degree in finance from Swinburne University, Melbourne and a diploma from London Teacher Training College, Wimbledon, London. He currently teaches finance, marketing, and strategic management in Cambridge International College (not related to the university in Cambridge, UK), one of the largest colleges in Australia that was featured on a documentary by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation about international students in Australia. Both authors can be contacted at khsoong_2000@yahoo.com, michaelsoong66@hotmail.com & ‘Australia Good Meh’ on Facebook.
