An ordinary journey home becomes an encounter a man will never forget.
After a long absence, a traveller boards a bus thinking only of home—his parents waiting for him, his wife, and his young daughter impatient for his return. But somewhere along the mountain road, three women climb aboard, and the journey changes.
One of them is a mother. Her daughter lies seriously ill in a hospital. Money must be found. Time is running out. And the mother can do little except make desperate phone calls, pray, and plead for the bus to move faster.
What the narrator witnesses stays with him long after he reaches home. Surrounded by his own family, he begins to understand the tears of his mother, the vulnerability of his daughter, and a truth he had never fully considered: parents may love their children equally, but they do not all possess the same power to protect them.
