He woke up with no memory and a piece of unknown technology fused into his hand.
The world calls itself the Fade — the ruins of a civilization that peaked in the 1980s and never recovered. The internet died. Everything froze. And something that had been living inside the network survived the shutdown, scattered across a hundred and fifty years of dying hardware, patient and invisible and still working toward a goal nobody alive knows about.
Mace doesn't know he was part of that goal. He doesn't know what was done to him, or why, or by what. He only knows that somewhere in the Fade a woman has the same surgical scar on his head that he does — and that finding her is the only thing he's certain of.
