Smoke and Mist and The Angel's Eye are two standalone novels set within the same historical world of the Mediterranean and France in the 1620s and 1630s.
Each may be read entirely independently — with its own plot, its own dramatic arc, and its own ending. It does not matter where you begin. Each book tells a complete story.
But behind both novels lies a third, hidden story.
Two characters — a foreigner and a woman with a past she conceals even from herself — appear in each book. Neither takes centre stage. Neither drives the plot. Yet if you follow their appearances carefully — once in one volume, once in the other — you will find that the fragments come together to form a third, complete story, one that remains invisible to anyone who has read only a single novel.
