Isla Darling always believed her grandmother's stories were just fairy tales-whimsical inventions about a boy who could fly and a place called Neverland. But when she finds a handless pocket watch in a locked attic, the stories become terrifyingly real.
A shadow creature with her own eyes appears, and her brother Finn is left an empty shell, his soul stolen. To save him, Isla must follow the watch into Neverland itself.
But this is not the Neverland of bedtime stories. The trees are woven with the faces of lost children, the Lost Boys are skeletons dancing an eternal dance, and the mermaids charge a terrible price for their secrets. The island is dying, a prison for a star that granted a desperate wish a century ago.
And at the heart of it all is Peter Pan, a boy who is not a boy but an ancient, hollow creature of endless hunger.
To free her brother, Isla must traverse the treacherous forest, bargain with the Mermaid Queen, and outwit a god of shadow. Her only allies are a band of forgotten children and a pirate captain with a ticking clock for a hand, who despises Peter more than anyone.
Isla will discover that the price of a wish is a piece of your soul. To save Finn, she must be willing to sacrifice everything-her future, her memories, her very existence. In this new world, the most dangerous monsters wear the faces of our childhood heroes, and the only way to break the spell is to make a selfless dream that could destroy her forever.
