As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, the ability to communicate effectively with AI systems is emerging as an essential academic skill. Prompt literacy encompasses the knowledge and practices required to craft purposeful prompts, refine inputs, critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, identify limitations and biases, and use AI tools ethically and responsibly. Integrating these competencies across disciplines can strengthen critical thinking, information literacy, creativity, research, writing, and problem-solving while helping students better understand the opportunities and challenges of human-AI collaboration. Effective implementation also requires educators and institutions to address issues related to assessment, academic integrity, accessibility, faculty development, and responsible-use policies. By framing prompt literacy as a core component of digital and AI literacy, higher education can equip students with the skills needed to engage thoughtfully, critically, and effectively with rapidly evolving technologies in academic and professional settings. Implementing Prompt Literacy in Higher Education explores strategies for integrating prompt literacy into teaching and learning to help students communicate effectively with generative AI, critically assess AI-generated content, and develop responsible academic practices. This book examines the implications of AI for pedagogy, assessment, academic integrity, faculty development, accessibility, and institutional policy, providing guidance for preparing students to navigate AI-enabled educational environments. Bridging theory and practice, it highlights approaches for fostering ethical AI use, critical evaluation skills, and informed decision-making across disciplines. Covering topics such as autoethnography, faculty development, and student experience and engagement, this book is a valuable resource for educators, academics, researchers, instructional designers, and higher education professionals.
